Our Work

We are the SLO Tenants Union, a group of renters advocating for our rights in San Luis Obispo. Our mission is to ensure that we all have access to safe, secure, and affordable housing by pushing for stronger tenant protections, rent stabilization, and fair housing policies. Together, we empower ourselves to hold landlords accountable and fight against unfair practices like excessive rent increases, unjust evictions, and unsafe living conditions.

Door-to-Door Canvassing

At the SLO Tenants Union, we go door-to-door canvassing to connect directly with renters in our community. We talk with tenants about their rights, listen to their experiences, and offer support for issues like rent increases, unsafe living conditions, or eviction threats. By having these one-on-one conversations, we help inform renters and build a stronger, more united community to stand up for our collective rights.

Giving Public Comment

We’ve consistently advocated for renters by engaging directly with the SLO City Council through public comments and letter-writing campaigns. At council meetings, we raise awareness about tenant issues like unsafe housing conditions and unfair evictions, urging local leaders to take action. Through organized efforts, including formal letters and public testimonies, we push for stronger tenant protections, rent control measures, and policies promoting affordable housing. Our consistent presence ensures that the voices of renters are heard and prioritized.

Sharing Our Stories

We’ve actively engaged with local media to amplify the voices of renters and highlight the work of the SLO Tenants Union. Through writing opinion pieces and participating in interviews, we’ve shared our stories, advocated for tenant rights, and brought attention to the urgent housing issues in San Luis Obispo. These media efforts help us raise public awareness, build community support, and keep the pressure on local leaders to prioritize affordable housing and tenant protections.
